Another legend says that a white horse, dreaming of becoming a dragon and ascending into the sky, was captured by a knight and froze on a rock.

Sanbangsan MountainMount Sanbangsan is the result of volcanic activity around 700,000 to 800,000 years ago. The cliffs on the south side of the lava dome are marked by various rich curious formations such as weathering holes, some of which are as high as 200 m. As the name 'sanbang' - literally meaning 'cave inside the mountain' - indicates, this mountain contains a cave, which is located about 150 m above sea level and has a spectacular view towards the ocean. Because of its location close to the sea and its high elevation, the peak is often surrounded by clouds. The upper slopes of the mountain have different climatic conditions and are protected for their value for botany research. The Sanbangsa Temple and also the Bomunsa Temple, which holds Buddhist relics, are also located on the mountain. Walk along the stone steps between the two temples and you will find Sanbanggulsa Grotto.
